I am directed by the Secretary for Mines to acknowledge

19 the receipt of your letter 92791/32 of the 8th December,

transmitting a copy of a telegram from the Governor of

Hong-Kong to the effect that the site for the proposed

Russian Soviet oil installation is in the New Territory

outside the Harbour limit, and not at North Point.

With regard to the reported application of the Asiatic

Petroleum Company for room to expand their North Point

installation, I am to explain, for the information of

Secretary Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, that the Company now

state that their request was for permission to erect an

additional benzine tank for which there was room on their

otherwise much congested property at North Point. This

permission was refused, but on the Company undertaking to

instal additional fire-fighting appliances, they were allowed
